OVERALL OUTLOOK

Wednesday: The more manageable day. Surf is initially small, but the swell and wave face build through the afternoon and evening. Fish early or around protected water while the wind remains lighter.

Thursday: A marked deterioration is forecast, with a larger swell, rising NE wind and much rougher surf. Exposed rocks, ledges and offshore launches require exceptional caution; sheltered observation or postponement is the better choice.

FISHING FOCUS

The reported sardine presence around Pennington and Scottburgh makes baitfish observation the first priority. Target shad where bait is present, with kob and garrick possible around mouths, points and structure on the moving tide. Sardine, red-eye, spoons and paddle tails are sensible options from the latest public KZN guidance. Work the early period and do not remain on exposed rocks as the swell builds.

Temperature: approximately 17–21°C at the Scottburgh forecast point.
Rain: approximately 0.3 mm in the weather model; a few showers remain possible, with partly cloudy intervals.
Wind: NE, increasing from about 35 km/h early to approximately 40 km/h during the day in the weather model; the surf model reaches roughly 23–28 mph (37–45 km/h) late morning to afternoon.
Surf wave face: approximately 1.1 m early, reaching about 2.6 m by evening in the surf model.
Primary swell: about 2.8–3.4 m, approximately 15–7 seconds. Swell direction is not exposed in the source's text export.
Sea state: rough and deteriorating, especially from afternoon onward.

Practical assessment: This is not a normal exposed-rock or offshore-fishing day. The early period may look smaller than the later conditions, but the rising NE wind and swell demand a conservative decision. FISHING FOCUS

Sardine activity may keep shad, kob and garrick interested, but the sea-state forecast is the limiting factor. If conditions are safe in a sheltered area, fish the early moving water and keep tackle suited to shad or kob. Do not let a favourable solunar period justify entering dangerous surf or exposed rocks.

NETTING, SIGHTINGS, SALES LOCATIONS & PRICES

Current public observation: a South Coast Herald public update dated 25 August reported sardines resurfacing along the wider KZN South Coast, with sightings at Glenmore Beach and Margate on 24 August and netting at Port Edward on 25 August. Port Edward is outside Region 2, so this is wider South Coast context rather than a local catch claim.
Region 2 public lead: a public social-media update on 25 August said sardines had emerged at Scottburgh and Pennington beaches; a separate public update on 24 August mentioned a net dropped north of Scottburgh Main Beach near Black Rock. The result of that net was not confirmed in the available public text.
Latest fishing guidance: the latest publicly listed Kingfisher KZN report found was dated 13 August. It described active winter shad, with garrick and snoek offshore, and kob and geelbek on deeper reefs when conditions allowed.
Current local catch counts, verified net weights, a confirmed Pennington/Scottburgh sales point and current fish prices were not available from the checked public sources.
Do not treat a sighting or netting report as a guarantee that fish will be present at every beach. Check the beach, bait movement, access and local rules on arrival.

Weather figures are from a current Scottburgh forecast issued at about 01:00 on Wednesday 26 August. Surf and swell figures are from a Scottburgh surf forecast, while tides are from a Scottburgh Point prediction. The tide providers use different reference ports/datums and show different heights, so the values above should be treated as approximate planning values, not a navigation product. The surf source's text export does not expose swell direction, and no wave-energy value was available.

Fishing observations are compiled only from publicly readable pages and public social posts. Private or unavailable groups were not accessed. The latest detailed Kingfisher report located was 13 August, while the 24–25 August sardine updates are reports of sightings/netting and not a complete local catch log.
