CURRENT PUBLIC FISHING OBSERVATIONS
- South Coast Herald (25 August) reported sardines at Glenmore Beach and Margate Beach on 24 August, followed by two nets at Port Edward on 25 August. These are wider South Coast observations; Margate and Port Edward are outside Region 1.
- Public regional updates dated 25 August reported sardines emerging at Scottburgh and Pennington beaches; a separate 24 August update mentioned a net north of Scottburgh Main Beach near Black Rock. The result was not confirmed in the available public text.
- East Coast Radio / Angler News SA (20 August) reported strong shad action along the KZN coastline, with South Coast and Aliwal Shoal activity including garrick, tuna and other gamefish. Published examples included a 6.5 kg shad from Tweni and shad and blacktail catches on the mid-South Coast.
- East Coast Radio / Coast Watch (21 August) reported heavy angler activity around the annual shad competition, while noting that shad had been avoiding lines during that week.
- The most recent public sardine-index results located for this run therefore support checking for bait, but do not provide a verified same-morning catch count for Amanzimtoti–Scottburgh. Shad remain the primary practical fishing focus.

Weather and marine figures are Open-Meteo model guidance for the Scottburgh representative point and may differ considerably between Amanzimtoti, Scottburgh and individual beaches. Wave and swell values are model estimates, not a local buoy reading. Tides are Surfline predictions displayed for the nearby Durban tide port; Surfline notes that accuracy varies with distance from the spot. Astronomical sun and moon data are calculations for the Scottburgh coordinates. Solunar periods are calculated around lunar transit, moonrise and moonset and are not a guarantee of fish activity.
Fishing observations are compiled from recent public media and publicly readable social-media reports, not live catch verification. Private or unavailable groups were not accessed. Check the beach, rip currents, shorebreak, wind, access and official warnings before fishing or launching. Follow current size, bag and seasonal regulations.
