First Fishing Report for Amanzimtoti

As I shall soon be living in Amanzimtoti, I will begin to add to this blog on a regular basis. Not only with the official report on fishing conditions, but also with upto date photographs and information gathered from the fishermen in the area them selves. I must admit that I will have to learn a bit about the subject and the jargon, so please bare with me.

Here is the official report for today. 18 December 2016

According to our calculations, today Dec 18, 2016 has a 1 out of 4 rating  and is a poor day for fishing.
The current moonphase is a Waning Gibbous and 81 percent of the moon is visible.
The sun will rise at 04:51 and sets at 18:56 while the moon rises at 22:44 and sets at 09:22.
Best fishing times are indicated by the four solunar periods of high feeding activity.
The two major solunar periods last for two hours or more and normally produce best results. Check out those days when they happen during sunrise or sunset for an extra boost.
The first major solunar feeding period starts at 02:42. The second major solunar feeding period starts at 15:03.
Minor periods last for about one or two hours. Feeding is said to be less vigorous. But if other factors like weather, tides, sunrise, etc are favorable those times could be just as good as the major times.
The first minor solunar feeding period starts at 08:22. The second minor solunar feeding period starts at 21:44.

Adrenaline X Master Pro 50 - 187m

Fishing Report South Africa

Katrol
Adrenaline X Master Pro 300m 50lb JB + 550m 30lb Trilene Mono

Stok
Finor HMG6-1 14' 4.2 m

Wat n kombinasie. Die man mag maar gooi. Okay ons het n bietjie tegniek gebruik met die inrol toets ... maar ons kan nie die katrol te goed laat voor kom nie. Net nou glo die mense ons glad nie ...

Thanks julle ...

St Lucia Estuary - 31 October 2016

Fishing Report South Africa

St Lucia Estuary

iSimangaliso Wetlands Park

Booking.com

Although a storm at sea delivered loads of Poseidon Lawn on the beaches side wash is of very little or no concern currently. If prevailing winds do whisk up a side wash then best avoid high tide fishing. Hit it hard on low tide and make the best of it. While the wind is absent ... don't talk just fish.

Best Fishing Spots
Estuary Beach - Around the pipe
Jabula Beach
North of Main Beach

Targeted Species
Grunter
Kob
Natal Stumpies
Wave Garrick

Bait
Wrapped Sardine. Choka or Tugela Squid
Any Live Baits
Sea Lice

Astrix Charters monthly Fishing Report

With many years fishing experience in St. Lucia, Maans from Astrix, is a veteran (sorry ... maybe Maans is probably not that old) at surf launching, game and bottom fishing from St. Lucia Estuary, iSimangaliso Wetlands Park, and with many successful fishing trips under his collar. His Boat Astrix is Big enough to be comfortable and small enough to be exclusive.

With more than a 100 Bill Fish catches record on Astrix, Maans also has the reputation in Zululand as being one of the top Queen Mackerel (Natal Snoek) and couta fishermen. Maans encourages tag and release of Bill Fish, but the fish the customer catches is his to keep provided it is within the law.

The Wahoo was only 18kg (only? ... what a Fish) caught of the coast of iSimangaliso Wetlands Park.

Dorado (Coryphaena hippurus) or Dolphin Fish and some places called The mahi-mahi weighs 15 kg. (In the photo above) It is a big one since most catches ranges between 5 and 7 kg. A hell of a fighter with tail walks and jumps. Dorado are among the fastest-growing fish. They spawn in warm ocean currents throughout much of the year, and their young are commonly found in seaweed. Mahi-mahi are carnivorous, feeding on flying fishcrabssquidmackerel, and other forage fish. They have also been known to eat zooplankton and crustaceans.

In the US people are very health conscious and The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) classifies mahi-mahi as a "moderate mercury" fish or shellfish (its second lowest of four categories), and suggests eating six servings or fewer per month. (if only ...)

This Sail Fish was caught on Saturday morning pulling the scale at 27kg. Year to date St. Lucia has produced quite a few sail fish catches from the Charter Boats.
