Johan van Staden’s Diamond Ray that was bitten by a Zambezi shark

ANGLER Johan van Staden got less than he bargained for when a Zambezi shark took a bite out of a Diamond Ray he was pulling out during the National B angling championships held at Mtunzini.The Ray measured 1.73 metres and the tasty bit nicked by the shark took off almost half of the ray’s right side. Taking part were 10 teams - Free State, Northern Gauteng, Boland, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Zululand, Western Province, Border, Southern Cape, and Central Gauteng.Zululand managed to finish the team competition in sixth place, while KwaZulu-Natal came third, winning the bronze medal.Boland emerged as the winners with 330.78 points.Most outstanding catch went to Willem Bouwer from Boland, who caught a sand shark of 31.14kg. The anglers also reeled in three bull sharks and seven stingrays during the three days.
