Happy new year to everyone…. May your 2009 be filled with screaming reels.
Let me share our fishing experience in St Lucia from the 21st December to 2nd January.
I am sure that most of you have read Volcom’s reports on the sea conditions.
The sea was on its head for some of the days and the winds were not kind to us either. The water was very cold for this time of year. There were no shad around and very few bait fish.
Anyway here goes… Firstly I would like to say that my son Trent gave me a good and proper hiding.
His first fish was a PB. A Raggie of 180kg’s (measured correctly, precaudal 215cm along the ground). The fish was hooked on the 23rd December about 400m south of the estuary towards Mapelane and she was landed 35 minutes later close to View point.
Trent on with the Raggie
I am on my way to grab her by the tail.
Proud son with his PB Raggie
When we released her she swam away strongly.
Now that was cool.
The next time we had some action was on the 28th December 2008
Fishing about 300m North of Ingwe Beach.
Trent’s rod went away and 25 minutes later he landed this beauty.
The honey weighed in at 64 kg’s (disk 135) and also swam away strongly.
The only decent pull I had the whole holiday was about 10 minutes after Trent landed his Honey.
I was onto a big fish .I could feel the power and the speed of this fish…. But twenty five minutes later my dream fish a Giant Guitar Fish was gone… the hooks pulled….but I saw my foe in the waves and it was well over the 2m mark… I estimated the fish to be about 80kg’s. That’s the way it goes.
