Mussel Cracker Confusing facts

One of the scientific basis to age a fish is through the stones(Otoliths) behind the ears in the head. When slicing these into very thin wafer slices the year rings of some fish species can be counted. In his book The Common Sea Fishes of Southern Africa Rudy Van Der Elst gives the growth table in weight to fish length. According to these graphs a fish of around 31kg is about 100cm long.

On the website Fish Base a specimen has been mentioned. 1.8m and 75kg with a counted age in the region of 42 years.
