Donovan and Flap Nose Ray - South Break Water

This family of a Shark (Cartilaginous Fish) is a summer migrant found in mid water large shoals come close to shore bringing them with in striking distance of shark nets. They feed mostly on bivalve mollusks forage from mud and sand banks. Give birth to live pups. (Viviparous).  Spear Fishing for this fish is not permitted in kwaZulu Natal. Angling Record is 12.7 kg.


Donovan caught this specimen on sardine fillet using a #1 heavy bandit 4x4 hook on a Sea-demon Fishing Rod with a Jig Master 500 Penn Reel wrapped Kingfisher 15 kg. Fishing for specimen from the South Pier where only privileged key holders has entrance to. Fighting aggressively till the first turn around it the fish seeded and headed shoreward. This fine specimen was released un-harmed and not tagged.
