OVERALL OUTLOOK — THURSDAY TO MONDAY
Thursday: The period opens with strong south-west winds and a building southerly sea. Rain is possible and exposed coast conditions are poor to hazardous.
Friday: The roughest day in this issue window. Heavy rain is likely, with strong southerly wind, large swell and offshore waves around 2.5–3.6 m.
Saturday: Cooler and mostly cloudy with lighter north-easterly winds, but the sea remains large at about 2.3–3.2 m. Protected shore water may offer limited opportunities; exposed ledges and launching remain unsuitable for many anglers.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy with lighter north-easterly winds. Swell eases somewhat, although 1.9–2.3 m offshore waves remain significant and careful local assessment is needed.
Monday: Cloudy with rain possible, a strengthening north-easterly wind and a renewed large swell trend. Conditions deteriorate again, particularly for exposed coast and small craft.

Fishing assessment: POOR on exposed coast. Strong gusts, rising swell and wave wash make exposed ledges, beach crossings and small-craft launching unsafe-looking in the forecast. A protected estuary or sheltered shore alternative should be considered only after a local check.

FISHING FOCUS
Shad and pelagic predators remain the logical targets if a safe, sheltered window develops, but renewed swell and gusts make exposed coast fishing a poor choice. Do not let a favourable tide or solunar period override sea-state checks.
CURRENT PUBLIC FISHING OBSERVATIONS
- The latest located KingFisher public update says the 2026 Sardine Run has made another appearance along the KZN coast, but experts say it is likely the tail end of the run. The same update says fishing remains promising across all regions and notes that trout season opened on 1 September.
- The latest detailed KingFisher KZN South Coast report located (27 August 2026) identifies garrick as a major attraction, with kingfish and shad offering sport along beaches and rocky points. It says lingering Sardine Run effects may still influence fish movements and advises anglers to wait for settled water.
- A public search result for the same KingFisher sardine update reports confirmed Port Edward nettings and good catches, but local conditions and the current exact beach position remain variable; treat this as an observation, not a guarantee for every Region 4 mark.
- Shad, garrick, kingfish and kob remain the main practical regional targets, subject to water colour, bait presence, tides, permits, reserve rules and safe access.

Weather values are Open-Meteo model guidance for Port Edward and marine values are Open-Meteo Marine model guidance from an offshore point near Port Edward. Forecasts are model output, not observations; conditions can differ substantially between Ramsgate, Southbroom, Trafalgar, Glenmore and Port Edward.
Tide and solunar times are Port Edward predictions from Tides4Fishing. Sunrise, sunset and moon data were checked against Timeanddate astronomy data. Tide heights are sports-fishing references and are not suitable for navigation.
